Hoek van Holland, De Lier, Monster
While every cycle route is a treat to cycle, this one is rightfully special. Besides cycling along the beautiful coast, you'll also pass through Hoek van Holland, where huge ships make their way to or from the sea. From here, you have a view of the Port of Rotterdam, Europe's largest port. Considering how small the country is, quite extraordinary! During this route, you will pass several dismounting points. You cycle past locations reminiscent of the Golden Age. Here, just off the coast, the great Dutch sailor Maarten Tromp was hit by a bullet and died during the naval war with the English. Prefer diving into the history of pop and rock music? Then make a stop at Museum RockArt, where Dutch music history is covered in detail, as well as the sea stations of the past. Discover the history and special nature of this area at d'Oude Koestal. At this visitor centre, you will get to know Westland better and discover which animals find their home in the forests you cycle through. Take a break at Lunchroom Bijzonder, where you will be helped by fine people and enjoy delicious dishes.
