Harbour route from Brouwershaven to Zierikzee

Zeeland's land used to consist of many more separate islands. So did Schouwen-Duiveland. Schouwen and Duiveland were once two separate islands separated by the water the Gouwe. In addition, there were two more islands: Bommenede and Dreischor. Over the centuries, the land grew together. With such a history strongly linked to the sea, you can imagine that there are many ports to be found in Zeeland. And that's right! This cycle route takes you past the cosy marinas between Marina Brouwershaven and Zierikzee. These two towns are the only ones on this island that were granted city rights early on: Zierikzee in 1248 and Brouwershaven followed in 1403. The marinas are beautiful places to visit every season, but summer is obviously the high season. This is when the bays are full of pleasure boats and the harbours are bustling and lively. You'll also pass the historic museum port in Zierikzee, where you can delve into the history of shipping, admire the shipyard and the old fleet. At Dreischor, you'll pass by a place that now consists mainly of polder landscape, but very long ago this was a harbour.... Experience the casual atmosphere by the water, imagine yourself in Mediterranean ambiances for a moment while taking in the salty sea air. A wonderful day of cycling!
