Terrace route across the North Veluwe

Fancy a pleasant day in nature? Then this cycle route on the North Veluwe is for you. Cycling through nature, you will discover great places to stop off: cosy outdoor cafés or small-scale breweries. From Uddel you set course towards Apeldoorn, where you soon enter Crown Estate Het Loo. This vast nature reserve, belonging to Het Loo Palace, breathes history and natural splendour. As early as 1684, the first Orange laid the foundation for this royal landscape by purchasing Het Oude Loo. An imposing castle then arose next door: Het Loo Palace, destined for him and his descendants. As the largest contiguous country estate in the Netherlands, Het Loo offers plenty of space to discover the area by bike. After your tour of the Crown Estate, the route leads you to lively Apeldoorn. This city, with its roots in the early Middle Ages, flourished when farmers discovered the fertile Veluwe soil, rich in water and suitable for agriculture. The rise of the paper industry accelerated Apeldoorn's growth. Today, the city is known for its many city parks, which give it a green character. With its old buildings and cosy atmosphere, Apeldoorn is the perfect place to relax. Discover one of the charming breweries and take time for a well-earned break in the old town, where you can relax on a terrace. You leave Apeldoorn behind you and cycle back into the greenery of the Kroondomein in no time. The last village you visit before arriving back in Uddel is Elspeet. In the village you will find the Historical Museum, an absolute must-see if you are curious about the history of the area. If you come by car, you can easily park at Landgoed Staverden. Enjoy the beautiful park surrounding the castle for a while and the view of the stately white building.
