The Hondsrug area is unique. The sand ridges and valleys were formed in the ice ages and prehistoric man left us his treasures there. For thousands of years, people shaped a landscape of all times. It is great cycling here through the friendly, rolling landscape with forests, burial mounds, dolmens, fens and beautiful moors. Borger is home to the largest dolmen in the Netherlands. It remains extraordinary how people were able to build such a grave with such large boulders 5,000 years ago. The Hondsrug is so special that it has UNESCO Geopark status.
