Cycle route from D'Oude Veiling to the Beemster

The Beemster region is well known for its cheese. But where does the cheese come from? The Beemster is now a polder, but once there was an inland sea here that was connected to the Zuiderzee. In the seventeenth century the reclamation started, and this is how the Beemster Polder came into existence. The reclamation created very fertile farmland, which of course had to be divided fairly. You can still see this clearly in the geometry of the pieces of land. This is also the typical image you see when you view the Netherlands from an airplane. Since 1999 the Beemster has been a UNESCO World Heritage site. On the land of the Beemster many cows graze and they provide the real Beemster products. Now that you have seen where these products originated it is time to taste them. At Restaurant Stoer in the Beemster there is enough on the menu to get you energized for the last few kilometers. Put your leg muscles to work on the way to Spierdijk and Hoorn. From afar you can already see windmill de Krijgsman. We recommend you jump off your bike in Hoorn at Brasserie d'Oude Veiling and let all your muscles relax, for example on the terrace or inside in a cozy corner. The Beemster is more than that slice of cheese, come and discover it.
