Royal route Cannenburch Castle & Het Loo Palace

Cannenburch Castle and the gardens of Het Loo Palace are the highlights of this cycle route. They are part of the national castles line that bundles the most beautiful castle and country house museums for visitors. The cycle tour starts and ends at the car park of Cannenburch Castle. This castle in Vaassen was built in the 18th century on the ruins of a medieval castle by order of the Gelderland Field Marshal Maarten van Rossem. Inside, you can admire a large collection of porcelain, paintings and furniture. A walk in the beautiful park surrounding the castle treats you to many water features and the Cannenburgh's mill. The gardens of Palace Het Loo are also not to be sneezed at. Also called the 'Versailles of the Netherlands', the palace has a rich history. The route introduces you to the royal Veluwe landscape, with lots of woods and vast heathlands. One section takes you across the Crown Estate 't Loo, which has been owned by the royal family of the Netherlands for centuries. A hidden royal touch on this route is The Cathedral, a work of art consisting of forty bronze tree trunks in the middle of the forest. The work was gifted to then Queen Beatrix for her 60th birthday and symbolises the warm bond between the Orange family and the forest. But pay close attention, because they look just like real tree stumps! Note: A large part of Crown Domain 't Loo, the core area, is open from 25 December to 14 September. This also applies to the parking areas.
