Mill route in Berkelland
Borculo, Eibergen, Ruurlo
Cycle past the different windmills in Berkelland, Achterhoek. Just follow the Berkel river and you’ll naturally end up at all the beautiful spots! First up is the Mallumse Molen. This watermill was built in 1748 and serves as both a grain mill and a peeling mill. The next mill on the route is Agneta, built in 1851 and named after the wife of Baron Van Heeckeren van Kell, who commissioned its construction. Her name was Agneta. This mill is used for sawing wood and grinding grain. Also along the way is a watermill called De Stenen Tafel. This historic mill is located right in the middle of Borculo and is easily recognised by its two large wooden paddle wheels. There’s one more mill on the route, though you'll need to take a short detour towards Neede. There you’ll find the Hollandsche Molen, built in 1926. It’s relatively new because the original mill was destroyed by a cyclone in 1925. Make sure to stop along the way for a lovely coffee and lunch at one of the cosy cafés, and finish your ride with some fresh ice cream at IJsboerderij ’t Dommerholt!
