Extraordinary natural monuments
Wolfheze, Rheden, Deelen
This route takes you through four nature reserves: National Park De Veluwezoom, the Deelerwoud, the Planken Wambuis and the nature near Wolfheze. These are exceptionally beautiful natural monuments which require some effort, as they sometimes involve climbing. But then you also get to see and hear wonderful things. The howling of red deer in the autumn, large and small game at sunrise or in the evening twilight, wild beauty around the nature reserve with the special name of Planken Wambuis or Wodan Oaks near Wolfheze. The route also takes you along Park Sonsbeek, the most famous park of Arnhem. Its hilly character and the great diversity of trees and plants are striking. The park also has a number of special historical monuments that are worth visiting, including an ice house and watchtower the Belvédère (both from the early 19th century). At the edge of the park is De Witte Watermolen (15th century), the only working water mill of the ten that originally stood along the Sint Jansbeek. The visitors' centre Molenplaats Sonsbeek is located in the mill's barn. The visitor centre is the ideal starting point for an introduction to Arnhem's beautiful parks and other nature areas.
