Combine your city trip in vibrant Maastricht with this relaxing cycle route. On the way, you will cross various well-known and unknown villages, each with their own charm. Swap the city for green hills towards the Bemelerberg. In this area, you will come across surprising traces that reveal the South Limburg connection with marlstone. On the mountain, you can admire a marl cave and you suddenly cycle past historical lime kilns. In Margraten, you can visit the American cemetery, the only one in the Netherlands. From Margraten, you cycle towards the historical town of Valkenburg. Here, too, many sights are inspired by the past, which was often under the ground. For example, the Steenkolenmijn (Coal Mine), where you get a glimpse into the life of the former miners. And, of course, the Velvet Cave, one of the many caves in this area. Follow the river Geul back to the heart of Maastricht via beautiful country estates. A lovely bicycle route to get a breath of fresh air!
