Cycling route along Egypt, Lions and Wolves

Although the name suggests something tropical, here you really are cycling through primeval Dutch Friesland. How the village of Egypt got its name is unclear, it could be that gypsies lived here and came up with this name for the area. On this cycle route along northern Egypt, you will cycle through flat polders and beautiful natural landscapes. Take a moment at the Diakonievene, for example. Peat used to be dug up here, which allowed the church's poor to provide poor people from the area with some warmth in winter. Now these excavations have created a beautiful area with ponds and heathland. To stay abroad for a while, you can also get off at ‘t Bokkehûske. This old and small house owes its name to a farmer who lived here. This farmer had quite a sought-after buck, so farmers from the area often came here with their goats to have them mated. Near the cottage you will now find a beautiful English garden, where the splendour of the flora and fauna awaits you. Parking is easy at Diakonievene.
