Cycling route Cortenoever and Coldenhove
Bronkhorst, Dieren, Brummen
Near Brummen, the IJssel meanders in a large curve around Cortenoever. This created a unique winding-valley landscape with deep gullies and high ridges. Inhabitants of this area lived with the sometimes high water. When the lock in the Bakkersdijk was opened, children simply went to school by boat. To the west of Eerbeek is Coldenhove. This estate used to be owned by the Oranges. King Willem III bought Koldenhave castle with moat, gardens and ponds and used it as a pleasure garden during hunting parties. The castle was destroyed by fire, but the estate is still there. During World War II and the Hungarian Uprising, wooden country cottages housed people in hiding and refugees here. Between Cortenoever and Coldenhove, you will be surprised by small villages, beautiful nature and fun descent moments. Note! You will encounter a cycle ferry along the way. The ferry sails seven days a week. Look for sailing times in the pitstop or on the ferry's website.
