Cycle route around Wolderwijd

All our routes can be cycled clockwise or anti-clockwise. However, we would advise you to cycle this route clockwise. While cycling, you can already enjoy the view of the Wolderwijd. At a certain point, you get a beautiful view from the polder of the skyline of the old Hanseatic city of Harderwijk. Amongst other things, you can see the Grote Kerk (Big Church), which stands out because it lacks a tower. It was there originally, but it collapsed in 1797. The round dome of the Dolfinarium is also unmissable. For more unique views, you can add the two viewpoints to your route. If you want a good view of beautiful birds, cycle towards the Vogelkijkhut Veluwemeerkust. Although Flevoland was only reclaimed in the last century, people already lived in this area long before the reclamation. In the 8th century, there was a village here called Seaewald. Unfortunately, it was swallowed up by the Zuiderzee in the late Middle Ages. The name of Zeewolde is a reminder of this village. As soon as you have passed the city, you cycle into the woods. The woods are crossed by the beautiful Hierdense Beek. Although the name of the stream is different in two places (in Leuvenumse Beek and Staverdense Beek), the same stream runs all the way from the Veluwemeer via Kasteel De Essenburgh to Kasteel Staverden. With this route, you fall from one surprise to another. Are you cycling enjoying the forest under the green foliage, there suddenly appears the large sand plain of the Beekhuizerzand. The sand dunes of great heights make it a spectacular area. You want to experience that!
