The polders between Oostburg and Cadzand-Bad form a unique and varied landscape. The polders are a characteristic part of the Zeeland landscape and fall under the ‘old land polder’ type. These are historical polders that were created as early as the Middle Ages by reclaiming land outside the dikes. They are relatively low, often have heavy clay soil and are ideal for agriculture. They are numerous in this part of Zeeland, and each has its own name, such as the Groote Lodijkpolder, the Olieslagerspolder, the Tienhonderdpolder and the Verdronken Zwarte Polder. These names often refer to the original functions, owners or special events of the past. A cycle route through this area lets you discover these historic polders. You ride along narrow dykes and quiet country roads connecting the different polders. Enjoy the vastness, beautiful views, vast fields and many birds. Mills are inextricably linked to the reclamation of the landscape. So you are sure to encounter a number of mills along the way. You will also pass some cosy villages, where you can stop for a cup of coffee or a local delicacy.
