Cycle route Veulen en Paardekop (Foal and Horse Head)

During this cycle route you will cycle around Horst in Limburg, crossing a number of nice nature reserves. You also take in a very narrow strip of North Brabant. By the way, did you know that more than half of the Dutch mushrooms come from Horst? Between the village of Veulen (Foal) and Griendtsveen, you pass through a forest called Paardekop (Horse's head). In the forest is a watchtower that gives you a magnificent view of the area. Why it is called Paardekop is not known, but it is suspected that it is because in the past a great battle took place here in which many warriors and their horses died. The horses would have been buried in a grave shaped like a horse's head. And if you look at the outline of the Paardekopbos forest, you could see the outline of a horse's head. Although Griendtsveen is in Limburg, people there speak a pure Brabant dialect. Originally, only peat cutters lived in the town. Only after all the peat was excavated did Griendtsveen get a residential function. America is known for the Schadijk woods, vacation parks and, of course, the band Rowwen Hèze. Finally, this route also visits Castenray. Here an old stud, which was important for the region, is honored with a sculpture. On a route with this name this sculpture should not be missed. A great bike route with lots of variety! Along the way you will come across several beautiful locations to spend the night, with which you can divide the cycle route if necessary.
