Cycle route along the Linge
Geldermalsen, Enspijk, Asperen
The Linge is the longest river in the Netherlands. It is a meandering ribbon in Rivierenland, with dike villages, osiers and river forelands on either side. This side arm of the Waal is at its most beautiful where you are going to cycle today! Besides the natural beauty, this is also a cycling route for history lovers. The places you cross all have a long history. A charter dated 12 August 850 mentions Geldermalsen. In 1389, the chapel in Tricht, dedicated to Saint Peter, was elevated to the status of parish church. Beesd is mentioned for the first time in the foundation charter of the abbey Mariënweerd in the year 1129. In Roman times, there was already a settlement called Caspingium on the spot where Asperen is now located. The history of Enspijk is connected to the history of the Pieck family. They lived in the House of Enspijck, which unfortunately was demolished in 1828. Get on your bike and enjoy the surroundings and impressive sights along the way!
