Emmen's new housing estates are not built directly adjacent to the city to preserve nature. As a result, Emmen has an open and green character. From the city you can drive straight into nature and up the Hondsrug, with its 26 metres above sea level the highest ‘mountain’ in Drenthe. In Odoorn, the Margarethakerk dates from the nineteenth century, but the consistory is part of an earlier church. This was built as early as the twelfth century with granite boulders. Discover the best of Drenthe on this route, which of course includes the Dolmen and the heathland. Back in Emmen, you can choose from a wide range of options: visit the zoo, view fine art in the former dairy factory, Tibetan art in the Museum of Contemporary Tibetan Art or take a stroll through the Rensenpark.
