Discover cycling city Nijmegen and its surroundings
Nijmegen, Millingen on the Rhine, Berg en Dal
Nijmegen, not only the oldest city in the Netherlands, but also one of the most beautiful cycling cities in the country! In the city you will find great attractions, such as the Stevenskerk with its tower. You can climb the church tower for a great view of Nijmegen. Or, to stay with the theme, take a look at the National Cycling Museum Velorama. Gourmets should not miss out on Stadsbrouwerij De Hemel! In this 'living' museum, not only is beer brewed according to traditional methods, but it is also processed into vinegar, mustard, whisky, liqueur and gin.
Nijmegen is a great place to discover by bike, but you will enjoy it at least as much when you ride through the surrounding villages. The village of Berg en Dal has an appropriate name. Here you climb over the wooded hills, which give you beautiful views over the green valley and the mountainous surroundings of Germany. Be warned: some of the climbs can be quite tough!
The river Waal and a small part of the river Rhine pass by. You will cycle along the fantastic Ooijpolder and the Millingerwaard, the pearls of nature reserve De Gelderse Poort. During your cycle tour you might just see the reed warbler or the black tern flying by. But you may also encounter larger animals: perhaps the path is blocked along the way by Przewalski horses, Konik horses or Galloway cattle.
