Cycling route through National Park De Oude Venen
Grouw, Jirnsum, Warga
During this route you will cycle through the special National Park of the Hoge Venen. This National Park is very special because of its varied landscape and many animal species. So you can search here for the own 'Big Five' of the De Hoge Venen. This consists of the sea eagle, roe deer, bittern, cormorant and the stork. During this route you will also pass several Frisian villages. A good example of this is the village of Grouw with its two protected village views. One of the beautiful Frisian villages to visit during this route.
Note: On this route, you have to cross regularly by ferry. Bring cash for this. Most ferries sail all year round, but below are the ferries with specific sailing times:
- Ferry Gastvrij Grou, between node 30-06: If the ferry does not sail, turn off at node 42 already to: 63-44-48-49-12 (or vice versa).
- Ferry Hin & Wer, at junction 38: If the ferry does not run, you can detour via junctions 16-39-38 (or vice versa).
- Ferry 'De Oerhaal' between Warten and Earnewâld, between junction 33-35: If the ferry does not sail, you can detour by cycling via junctions 33-69-34-35 (or the other way round).
