Cycling route on the island of Voorne-Putten
Oostvoorne, Vierpolders, Hellevoetsluis
The Haringvliet forms the division between the South Holland islands of Goeree-Overflakkee and Voorne-Putten. With this cycling route you will discover the latter of the two. The best way to discover the island is by bike, with a cycling route that takes you past all the important sights. In addition to the many windmills, Fortified Town Brielle is also a recommendation. Connected to the route is TOP Brielle, which is an ideal location to park the car and start the cycling route.
One of the adjacent villages is Vierpolders. The village includes the polders Oud Hellevoet, Oude Goote, Veckhoek and 't Nieuwland. The name refers to the number of polders that make up the former municipality. In the Haringvliet, where you cycle along, nature organizations want to develop a delta landscape with mud flats, salt marshes and reed beds. There will also be bird islands and shellfish beds. According to the World Wildlife Fund, the initiator, it should create a Valhalla for fish, porpoises, dolphins and birds. You might even see the other island of Goeree-Overflakkee from this side!
To cycle the cycling route continuously is quite difficult. So get off regularly to take a closer look at the sights.
