Cycling route Museum and Port City Rotterdam
Rotterdam, Vlaardingen, Maassluis
It is well known that Rotterdam, with its distinctive skyline, is known for its modern architecture. That Rotterdam is among the top three largest ports in the world too. But did you know that Rotterdam also has a vibrant cultural scene? That while cycling through Rotjeknor, the city of sunshine, you will be treated to one surprising museum after another?
We selected the most interesting museums as stepping-stones in this cycle route, but you can't possibly see them all in one day. Make a choice and save the rest for the next time you visit this impressive city on the Meuse. You'll already find seven of these sights together in the Museumpark, but Rotterdam's other parks are also awe-inspiring and a nice place to take a break from your bike ride. Who would have thought you could also find so much greenery, peace and space in this busy metropolis?
Green, peace and space can also be found in the outskirts of Rotterdam, as you cycle through the polders towards Maassluis. The route leads you through the watery nature reserve De Vlietlanden, but you could also opt for the cosy foot and cycle ferry De Kwakel at node 71, bobbing up to node 66 to rejoin the route via node 39. Or the other way round if you cycle the route the other way round. Just check first if the ferry is running.
Via the impressive harbours of Maassluis, Vlaardingen and Schiedam you return to the port of Rotterdam, it doesn't get any more impressive than that. So jump on your bike!
