Sneek, Oudega, Bolsward

You start the route in cosy Oudega, a village where time seems to stand still. Surrounded by water and green meadows, this is a great place to start your Cycle route. Soon, you ride along winding dike roads and past vast Frisian lakes, where sailing boats glide peacefully over the water. The route takes you through small villages like Blauwhuis and Nijland, where church towers rise above the landscape. No crowds or tourist attractions here, just a glimpse of real Frisian village life.

After a leisurely drive, you reach Bolsward, a town with a rich history and beautiful monuments. The old Hanseatic city is full of stately merchant houses and atmospheric canals, but it is especially the former orphanage that captures the imagination. This impressive building housed orphans for centuries. Nowadays, you can stay overnight here. Strolling through the city centre, you can feel the history on every street corner.

The route then heads for Sneek, Friesland's water city. There is always something to do here, with sailors mooring their boats and cyclists enjoying the view over the canals. The iconic Waterpoort welcomes you to the heart of the city, a perfect place to hop off and explore the city centre. Perhaps settle down on a terrace or admire the historic facades as you stroll down the shopping street. After Sneek, it's time to pedal the final kilometres back towards Oudega, with a fresh breeze in your face and your head full of Frisian impressions.
