Cycling along the banks of the Maas river
Oss, Megen, Nistelrode
Start your cycle route in Oss, a village with a rich history. Many of the sights have an industrial background and sometimes contain Art Nouveau elements. From Oss, you can almost see the banks of the river Maas. It doesn't take long before you are meandering along the river to the fortified town of Megen. This historical town lies in the triangle Den Bosch, Nijmegen and Oss. Visitors like to come here for a bicycle ride along the river Maas. The view of 'De Gouden Ham', the recreation area north of the Maas, is beautiful. Megen used to be the capital of the county of Megen and had a castle and city walls, but the city was ravaged by wars and fires. Only the Prison Gate, a remnant of the old city wall, was spared.
The fortress town of Ravenstein is at least as special. The picturesque streets, old gates and historical buildings make you curious. When you take a walk through the centre, if you pay attention you will come across two cannons from Liège.
Had enough of the banks of the Meuse? Continue your cycle route back into the Brabant countryside and be amazed by the landscape.
