Oisterwijk is already described in a deed from the 8th century, although it was under a different name. There were two parishes in the area: Oost-Tilburg and West-Tilburg. Because Oisterwijk was granted market rights on the territory of Oost-Tilburg in 1212, the name Oisterwijk came into being. Moergestel is a village where the shoe industry made its mark. Of all the shoe factories, only that of the Van Bommel family is still active.
