Cycle route Visit Sietse and Hielke Klinkhamer
Heerenveen, Terherne, Akkrum
Terherne is known as the Kameleon village. There, you will be introduced to the childhood heroes Sietse and Hielke Klinkhamer. Many films were shot in this area. You'll see the Kameleon moored next to hotel ‘De Gouden Leeuw’ and come across father Klinkhamer's forge. take a round trip in a pram, which of course is pushed by the Kameleon.
At VVV Terherne, visit the Kameleon Boat Station, where you can take a round trip (with a guide) in a pram, which is of course pushed by the Kameleon. Nostalgia at its best!
You'll also pass through the Frisian village of Akkrum, which has a special legend surrounding its origins. The giants Manke Meine and Kromme Knilles dug the Boarne around 1400. But at Akkrum, they got into a disagreement. Thereupon they split; Knilles dug the Kromme Knilles, and Meine the Meinesloot.
Finally, you pass through well-known Heerenveen, where many athletes were raised. It is the hometown of (among others) footballer Abe Lenstra, hockey star Margriet Zegers, athlete Marga Wiegman, show jumper Franke Sloothaak and a whole host of skaters, including Thijsje Oenema, Falko Zandstra and Sven Kramer. You will find the world-famous ice stadium Thialf and football stadium Abe Lenstra, home of SC Heerenveen.
