Cycle route to the Effelder Waldsee
Herkenbosch, Effelder Waldsee, Vlodrop
Ready to go on a trip in Germany? Bring your swimming gear! From the lovely village of Herkenbosch you can cycle in a short time to the recreational lake Effelder Waldsee, just across the German border. This 38-hectare lake offers hours of fun! On the beach you can play beach volleyball, football or relax on the lawn in the hammocks. An Aquapark* has also been set up on the waterfront. With attractions such as floating slides, a 5-metre-high Free Fall, water skiing track, trampolines and climbing towers, you can experience the most exciting adventures.
On the way to the water, you can cycle through De Meinweg National Park. Between the vast forests and heathland lie quiet pools and meandering streams. The only poisonous snake in the Netherlands lives here: the adder. In the spring and summer, they like to lie down in sunny spots to warm up, and then you might just run into one. Fortunately, however, they are very good at hiding.
If you like asparagus, pay attention when you cycle through the village of Effeld. The village is known for its asparagus. This is a real treat! After Effeld in Germany, you return to Vlodrop in the Netherlands. From here you follow the river Roer and you meander through the landscape back to Herkenbosch. Have you seen the castle Daelenbroeck yet? When you see the huge watchtower, complete with battlements and moats, and the large entrance gate, you will feel like a prince or princess from days gone by.
Beautiful nature for nature explorers, interesting monuments for history buffs and plenty of water fun for adventurers. This cycle route is a treat for young and old!
