Cycle Route Tiel, an image of the city
Tiel, Buren, Geldermalsen
Tiel, beautifully situated on the banks of the river Waal, is definitely a good destination for a relaxing bike ride. Especially if you are a lover of visual art, you will be in your element here. Tiel is home to no less than 65 works of art in all shapes and sizes. From the cheerful statue of Flipje, created by Else Ringnalda, to the moving portrait of Mary Dresselhuijs, created by Jesualda Kwanten. You will also find the centuries-old Memorial Stone from 1528, a masterpiece by an unknown artist, to modern pieces such as "Support" from 2014 by Bartha Breman. Also be surprised by the elegant Horse by Riesjart Bus and the playful Beast Gang by Guusje Kaayk.
Leave Tiel behind and continue cycling towards Geldermalsen. Here you will encounter art in unexpected places. Look up and admire "The Dove," which stands proudly on the roof of the fire station. This work of art, created by Marte Roling, adds a touch of creativity to the city.
Don't forget to explore picturesque Buren, either. Let history come alive as you consider that William of Orange and Anna of Buren got married here in 1551. This romantic moment has been captured in a statue in front of the church where the ceremony took place.
So why not hop on your bike and enjoy a wonderful day of fine art and history in this charming region? There is so much to discover and admire for art lovers and curious souls alike.
