Cycle route through the Veluwe forests
Staverden, Garderen, Ermelo
Experience the forests of the Veluwe! Between the forests, the route takes you to the smallest village in the world, Staverden. By the way: there are two other places that claim this title... But of those three, Staverden in any case has a beautiful castle where the Count of Gelre liked to spend time. The gardens are well worth stopping for. Pay a visit to the white peacocks and go in search of the Leonorapol. Who knows, you might find someone on the island with her tombstone who can tell you her sad story.
Leave Staverden behind and cycle on to picturesque Garderen, a charming village in the middle of the Veluwe. From Garderen, you cycle through a forest of robust beech trees to Drie. Look around you, it is not inconceivable that you will encounter wildlife on the way.
When you cycle into Drie, you almost cycle out again. Drie probably originated in the 8th century, but never grew into a fully-fledged village. That's why it now falls under the municipality of Ermelo. Enjoy the farmland and be surprised by the cosiness of this mini-village.
