The Alblasserwaard region lies in the south-east of South Holland and is surrounded by the River Lek in the north and the River Merwede in the south. The region forms the southern part of the Green Heart. And it certainly is green here: you are surrounded by extensive polders that are only interrupted by canals, lakes, idyllic old villages and endless ditches.
Cycle past the cows in the meadow and the pollard-willows along the banks of the ditches. You are bound to come across windmills here. Nowhere else will you experience the Dutch polders better than here, in the Alblasserwaard!
