Cycle route through the old Orvelte
Aalden, Westerbork, Orvelte
History comes alive in the village museum of Orvelte. Get off your bike and walk over the cobblestones or the old pavements along the monumental farms. Enjoy nature and visit the many artists who have their studio here. Just outside Orvelte, you can admire a recreated Iron Age farm and with a bit of luck you will encounter the flock of sheep. And did you know that Orvelte has its own zoo? It is the smallest in the Netherlands and located in an old Saxon farm. In the esdorp of Aalden you can also enjoy the Saxon farms that have been well preserved here. Visit the Jantina Helling mill from 1652, popularly called the Aeldermeul. Just like Orvelte, Westerbork is a green village. Next to the monumental church of Westerbork you can relax from your cycling route on the terrace of Diggels.
