Cycle route through the hinterland of Deventer and Twello
Deventer, Twello, Diepenveen
This route starts in the southernmost tip of Diepenveen in Overijssel. You can park your car at the Wechelerveld car park at Wechelerweg 43 in Schalkhaar. There, you can immediately pick up the route towards junction 65. In Diepenveen, you pass tree nursery & garden centre Gooiker and can visit asparagus farm De Boerkamp in season (from April to the end of June), to cycle towards Deventer with a well-filled pannier.
Before crossing the river IJssel, you will pass the monumental Rijsterborgherpark. This city park has a sculpture garden full of works of art in bronze and granite and is a great opportunity to stretch your legs. Over the imposing river IJssel, the route continues towards Twello, which means "two woods" or "double woods". And now let Twello be located between two forests.... In this village in Gelderland, we selected two windmills and a milk tap worthy of your visit.
Through the rural area around the village and along the green banks of the river IJssel, you cycle towards the ferry that takes you back to Deventer. Here, Museum De Waag and the Deventer Koekwinkel are recommended. Via Deventer's suburbs and the recreational nature park Buitengoed De Kolk, you cycle along the Kanaaldijk-Oost towards Deventer's hinterland. Heerlijkheid De Linde is another Pit stop here that we can recommend.
Then you cycle in peace, past endless farmlands, back to where you started your route. You finish a tour with typical Dutch scenes; windmills, farms, a ferry and a bicycle bag full of delicious products.
