Cycle route through the green countryside around Rooise

Sint-Oedenrode, Liempde, Boskant
Do you love the outdoors as much as we do? Get on your bike, take a few deep breaths and enjoy! We will cycle through the natural surroundings in the outskirts of de Rooi, the local name for Sint-Oedenrode. This city is also known as the gateway to Het Groene Woud (The Green Forest). And it certainly is green here!
The Dommel, the stream that winds its way through the area, is the basis of the Rooise landscape. The Dommel valley is considered one of the most beautiful stream valleys in the Netherlands. You will see many authentic farmlands around the water, as well as nature that has arisen thanks to the fertile soil. The Vresselse forest is a highlight. Less than a hundred years ago, this was still heathland, sand drifts and a number of fens. The drifting sand caused a lot of inconvenience to the local farmers, so they decided to afforest the area. In the middle of the forest you can still find a large, natural fen: the Hazenputten.
On the outskirts of Sint-Oedenrode you will also find two beautiful parks. The Kienehoef is named after former stadtholder Jacobus Kien. In the 1930s, there was high unemployment in this region. The stadtholder owned a lot of land and started the construction of this park as a work creation project, complete with a swimming pool and aviary. This way, he ensured that unemployment decreased. The swimming pool is no longer there, although you can still experience the water on the Waadpad. This path takes you right through the water and children can explore the water in the laboratory. Over the years, the aviary has grown into a large petting zoo. In short, De Kienehoef park is a fun place to take your children!
An undiscovered gem is the De Stal open garden. The person behind this garden transformed a former pasture into a wonderful garden for everyone to enjoy. A little paradise of various small gardens, full of imagination. Together they form a whole. It may take a bit of searching, but it is more than worth the effort!
