Cycle route through the Black Forest
Rijssen, Enter
During this cycle route, you will not only discover the countryside of Overijssel, but also the mysterious forests of this province. Here you will find the real Dutch Black Forest. Cycling through it, you won't have to wonder what gave it its name. Indeed, it is reminiscent of the Black Forest in southern Germany.
The Black Forest was planted here in the First World War as work relief. There used to be as many as 15 brickworks in Rijssen, but fortunately much of the area has been returned to nature. At Havezathe De Oosterhof, you can get off at the Rijssens Museum, where you will be introduced to various works of art and learn more about Rijssen's urban history.
But this route has more to offer, of course. Cycling through the area is a sight in itself, but there is much more to see. You will pass the Pelmolen in Ter Horst, admire the colourful Aan de Stegge building and learn what a zomp is at the Klompen- en Zompenmuseum.
