Cycle route The Dommel at Dommelen
Dommelen, Eindhoven, Geldrop
You are not the only one to enjoy the Dommel. Vincent van Gogh also painted the river several times. Nowadays, the Dommel is mainly popular with canoeists, but larger ships used to sail here as well. Already in the thirteenth century, water mills were built to use the river's water power. This cycle tour takes you along two beautiful historical water mills. The Genneper Watermill is the oldest and is first mentioned in 1249. The Dommelsche Watermolen is slightly younger, but with a first mention in 1422, can certainly be called cultural heritage.
There was already a brewery in Dommelen in 1744. Until 1868 it was a family business, where of course the Dommelsch beer came from. Nowadays, the brewery is owned by Inbev, the largest brewery chain in the world. Unfortunately, the brewery cannot be visited.
Between the built-up areas, you will find breathtaking nature with forests, heaths and fens. A great cycle route to combine culture and nature!
