Cycle route Strabrechtse Heide, Groote Heide and the Leenderbos
Heeze, Leende, Westerhoven
The Leenderbos and the Groote Heide are about 2000 hectares in size. The area mainly consists of coniferous trees, but the State Forestry Administration is creating more and more heathland areas. Because of the developments in these two areas, there are many different birds to discover. For example, the kingfisher, nightjar, bittern and honey buzzard live here, but also large and small mammals.
The Strabrechtse Heide actually has a wrong name. You would expect an enormous heathland, but you will be surprised by a varied area with fens and special plants! Rare species such as water fleas and sundews grow around the ponds. Many dragonfly species and amphibians, such as the moor frog and the natterjack toad, also have a good time here. Just like you, when you cycle through this beautiful nature reserve!
