Cycle route Soest from High to Low
Soesterberg, Soest, Soestdijk
Soest is an elongated ribbon village, with two ribbons running on either side of the Eng. The higher Soesterberg is known for Soesterberg Airbase Park and the National Military Museum. On the north side is the Eempolder, the pasture area that borders on the Eem Lake, formerly the Zuiderzee. On the east side, you will find the Soesterduinen. This cycle tour will show you the many faces of Soest and Soesterberg.
Start your route at TOP Park Vliegbasis Soesterberg, which is near the National Military Museum. Park Vliegbasis Soesterberg is a unique area, a treasure chamber full of surprises. Are you curious about this special nature reserve? Utrechts Landschap organises (cycling) excursions at the airbase from April to October. You can also walk and cycle there on your own. From the TOP, you soon cycle past the Soesterduinen, a 'living' shifting sand area that was designated as an Earth Heritage Site in 1997 by the province of Utrecht.
You then pass Stellingkorenmolen De Windhond. The mill is open three times a week. Visitors are welcome to watch the miller at work and to explore the various rooms in the mill. Before you fly back to the Soesterberg airbase, enjoy a drink on one of Soest's terraces. Actually, Soest and its surroundings cannot be discovered in one day. Stay the night, tomorrow there will be even more to experience! There are numerous accommodation options in the region.
