Cycle route Secrets of Kampen
Kampen, Reeve
Kampen, a beautiful Hanseatic city, played an important role in international trade in the Middle Ages. This rich history is still visible in the well-preserved historic centre, where Gothic buildings dominate the skyline. The Old Town Hall and the imposing city gates recall the days when Kampen was a thriving trading town. Walking through the narrow streets, you will come across some hidden gems in addition to the indispensable and impressive churches, towers, gates and town houses.
For example, visit the Hof van Breda, a former castle courtyard overlooking the Nieuwe Toren. And don't forget to take a peek through the windows at Kampen's smallest house for a trip back in time. But be careful, because you'll walk right past it!
For those looking for nature, the city park is the (literal) green heart of the city. This park offers a lovely place with lots of greenery, beautiful water features and lots of recreational facilities for young and old.
Outside the city, the agricultural landscape awaits. You exchange the bustle of the city centre with the peace and space of the countryside on the Kamper river island. You are led past farms, marinas and dykes with wide views of the Randmeren.
