Cycle route round Hilversum
Hilversum, Hollandsche Rading, Baarn
This cycle route starts in Hilversum, a city with many faces and nicknames. As the cradle of the Dutch broadcasting system, it proudly bears the title Media City, but the municipality also calls itself Garden City, referring to its green residential areas. With its stately villas, Hilversum is additionally often called the Villadorp. From this lively centre with its rich history you start the route, which not only takes you past modern media capitals, but also through beautiful nature reserves.
You cycle past Hilversum Airfield, a historic place that has played an important role in aviation since the 1930s. During World War II, the airfield was used and expanded by the Germans, but after the war it was given a recreational function. Today, you can watch gliders take off or admire paratroopers in action here. The airfield still exudes the charm of its historical roots.
The route takes you through the forests surrounding Hilversum and further north and east. Along the way, nature, estates and impressive buildings alternate. Cycle along stately paths, through moors and enjoy the views. With Hilversum as starting and finishing point, this route offers a wonderful mix of culture, history and the green landscapes the region is known for.
