Cycle route Peat landscapes in the Vecht valley
Vroomshoop, Bergentheim, Kloosterhaar
Discover the surroundings of Radewijk, in the peaceful Vecht valley of Overijssel. As you cycle through the fields, past old farms and winding paths, you will feel the peace of the region. Vast meadows and small forest areas alternate, making it a diverse landscape.
Along the route, you pass through nature reserves such as the Engbertsdijksvenen, where the unique peat bogs have shaped the landscape. The smell of heather and the vastness of the peat show a collaboration of nature and man. You can learn more about this at the Veenmuseum Vriezenveenseveld, a place that takes you back in time and shows how the peat labourers once shaped their lives in this region.
Mills and farms are reminders of times gone by. You will pass Korenmolen Windlust, a striking heirloom in Radewijk from the 19th century. This mill, once essential for grinding grain, now offers a glimpse of the traditional miller's trade.
Parking is available near the Pit stop Blaarkop (Engbertsdijksvenen) on Dorpsstraat.
