Cycle route Outside the dykes at Breskens

Breskens, Biervliet, IJzendijke
This cycle route takes you through the open Zeeland polder landscape, past atmospheric villages and over the dike overlooking the sea. The wide views, creeks and fields alternate, while you sniff the salty air and feel the wind through your hair.
Along the way, you will discover the charm of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. You pass an organic rose nursery, where colourful roses are grown without pesticides. A little further on, you pass a cheese farm, where artisanal cheeses with special flavours are made.
The route takes you to IJzendijke, also called ‘Petit Paris’, where a four-metre-high Eiffel Tower replica gives a nod to the village's French influences. From here you cycle towards the coast and are presented with a different setting: the sea dyke opens up and the view of the Westerschelde is breathtaking. At low tide, you can see the tidal flats falling dry, where countless birds forage.
A special part of the route takes you outside the dike, where you experience Zeeland's rugged nature up close. Via winding paths and old windmills such as De Witte Juffer and the Hulsterse molen, you return to the starting point, with a head full of fresh sea air and wonderful impressions.
