Breskens, Biervliet, IJzendijke

Breskens used to be the place where most motorists entered Zeeland- Flanders by ferry. The alternative was a detour via Antwerp. Since the construction of the Westerscheldetunnel, you no longer need to embark, but do not worry: for enthusiasts, there is still a bicycle-foot ferry between Vlissingen and Breskens. The Bressians also like to use it themselves. Biervliet is now a small village, but make no mistake: it had city rights in the 12th century and was part of the German empire. It even had two mayors and seven aldermen to run the city. IJzendijke, just a bit bigger, was part of the French crown at the time.
