Cycle route Mills and Mühle along the Vecht
Hardenberg, Laar, Grambergen
This mill-rich cycle route takes you from Hardenberg through the Dutch and German Vecht valley, along the Vecht, which has its origins in the penultimate ice age, the Saalien. The grasslands between the Vecht and the ashes created in the Middle Ages form the Vecht valley. Enjoy the tranquillity, nature, the beautiful winding paths and the many treasures the Vecht valley has to offer. You cross the Vecht under your own steam with the draw ferry at Laar.
You continue cycling through a landscape characteristic of a raised bog area. An ordered landscape with straight fields and monumental farms. In the German part you will regularly find a Schutzhütte between the farmlands where you can take a rest.
Check out the various mills on the route and find out what makes them so special. Whether you are interested in the history, architecture or technology of the mills, there is something for everyone. Can you see the difference between Dutch and German mills?
If you still have time to spare, a visit to Ada Hofman's Pond Gardens is also highly recommended
