Cycle route Hilly Driebergen-Rijsenburg
Driebergen-Rijsenburg, Woudenberg, Scherpenzeel
As the name somewhat suggests, Driebergen and Rijsenburg were previously two different municipalities. Driebergen merged with Rijsenburg since 1 May 1931 to form Driebergen-Rijsenburg. Since 1 January 2006, the municipality of Driebergen-Rijsenburg was further expanded to include the villages of Overberg, Leersum, Doorn, Maarsbergen, Amerongen and Maarn. This new municipality was also given a new name: municipality of Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Not surprising, since all the places are on or on the Heuvelrug!
Take Leersum, for example. This village lies at the foot of the Heuvelrug and is known for its wooded character. Meander through the woods and brave the hills. Arriving at the top, you will enjoy beautiful views. The forests are interspersed with the villages of the former municipality of Driebergen-Rijsenburg. You also cross Woudenberg, one of the towns on the Grebbelinie during World War II. Learn more about the history at Museumbunker Grebbelinie. Finally, you will cycle through the cycling city of 2020: Scherpenzeel.
In short, with this cycle route, a wonderfully varied day awaits you!
