Cycle route Highlights around Winterswijk
Winterswijk, Corle
In the Winterswijk area traces have been found from the Jura Lias era. The Jurassic is the name of the geological period that lasted from approximately 201.3 to 145 million years ago. Lias is the name for the first/lower stone layers from the Jurassic period. The soil of Winterswijk can therefore be called monumental. That is why the government has declared this area of no less than 22,000 hectares a National Landscape. The special soil is clearly visible in the quarry at junction 22.
Because the landscape literally and figuratively lay in a remote corner, separated by marshes, it has been able to develop into the nature reserve it is today. The landscape is especially known for its many ash trees and meandering streams. With this cycle route, you will pass all these breathtaking nature areas. From high moors to coulisse landscape, from woods to lakes. Everything passes by around Winterswijk!
During this route you will pass two catering establishments that are connected to each other, because at Lev. by Mike you can taste the Achterhoek quality wines of Wijngaard Hesselink.
