Cycle route Heerenveen and Wolvega
Heerenveen, Wolvega, Munnekeburen
Cycle from Heerenveen towards the beautiful Tjeukemeer, where you will enjoy wide views along the rippling water. Friesland's largest lake will give you a breath of fresh air. From here, the trip continues to the special nature reserve Rottige Meente.
Rottige Meente is a unique wetland where nature has free rein. Here, the otter has celebrated its Dutch comeback and with a bit of luck you will spot traces of this rare inhabitant. Visit the lookout point to properly admire the impressive landscape of reed beds, water features and swamp forests.
Via meandering rivers such as the Scheene and the Tjonger you reach Wolvega, where a visit to Museum ‘t Kiekhuus will give you a glimpse into the past. This charming museum in the city centre offers an intimate look at life in the past. The route then takes you back to Heerenveen, where you can round off your active day out.
