Cycle route Grebbe Line South
Veenendaal, Rhenen, Renswoude
Get to know the southern part of the Grebbe Line, located between Veenendaal and Rhenen. As you cycle past the traces of this region's military history, you will discover the stories of this impressive defence line.
Start at the Grebbelinie Visitor Centre, where you can prepare yourself for the stories you will encounter along the way. With Fort aan de Buursteeg just a stone's throw away, you can already see the first works of history here.
Via the Valleikanaal canal, you pass the Grebbeberg in Rhenen. In May 1940, the most famous battle of the Dutch army took place here: the Battle of Grebbeberg.
Take time to visit one of the special museums on the route. Stadsmuseum Veenendaal shows you much more about the history of Veenendaal. Stadsmuseum Rhenen also gives a unique insight into the history of the area. From Neanderthals and Frankish monarchs to military stories and artists like Rembrandt; a colourful collection tells you how the region developed.
