Cycle route Giethoorn and surroundings
Meppel, Giethoorn, Ruinerwold
Meppel is known for its cosiness and quaint shops. Meppel is also one of the starting points of the Drentse Fietsvierdaagse. Surrounding the city of Drenthe are nature reserves, where cycling is wonderful!
This route from Meppel focuses on the surroundings of Giethoorn. The idyllic village is world-famous thanks to the many bridges, canals and sloops bobbing in the canals. Giethoorn is in the middle of National Park Weerribben-Wieden, a 6,000-hectare nature reserve of water, reeds, marsh forests and meadows. A special trip!
Nijeveen is a village with ribbon development. In March, there is the annual sing-along festival that is a household name in the region. On the third Saturday in August, the old-timer festival is held in Ruinerwold. And while we are in the past, don't miss ‘Opoe's legacy’ in Ruinerwold. In this museum-like shop you will find kitchen textiles and old Dutch sweets.
