Winschoten, Blauwestad, Bad-Nieuweschans

Oldambtmeer lake and the surrounding Blauwestad form a unique area where nature and modern architecture meet. This artificial lake, constructed in 2005, breathed new life into the former agricultural area of Oldambt. Blauwestad is a unique residential area with colourful, waterside homes and an open, spacious landscape. Here you can enjoy the panoramic views over the water, charming little beaches and the combination of new and old Groningen elements.

During the route you will also pass the Dollard area, a special estuary on the border of the Netherlands and Germany. Here salt sea water and fresh inland water mix, creating a dynamic nature reserve that extends to the Wadden Sea.

The wetland landscape attracts numerous bird species, making it a paradise for nature lovers. In summer, the area is bustling with activity: beaches fill up with visitors, sailboats and canoes sail across the lake, and a relaxed holiday atmosphere prevails along the canals. Along the way you will pass characteristic windmills, where you will catch a glimpse of the province's traditional past.
