Cycle route for birdwatchers
Maarssen, Vinkeveen, Loosdrecht
The cycle route for birdwatchers takes you along various polders and marshes; places in nature that many birds also know how to find! You cycle through the Groot Mijdrecht polder. The polder is being transformed into an important ecological connection between the nature areas that border it. You can already see how it will become in the Waverhoek, a good place for spotting water, meadow and marsh birds. With a bit of luck, you might even spot the bittern or spoonbill here.
But nature reserve Botshol is not to be sneezed at either. Once one of the deepest polders in our country, it is now a unique marshy area. The rippling peat lakes, narrow ditches, waving reed beds and the marsh forest make it a special experience. Botshol is not on the list to become a European protected area for nothing.
You will encounter many more water birds if you cycle right through the Loosdrechtse Plassen. Also the Tienhovense plassen should not be forgotten. This authentic piece of marsh and swamp forest is well worth dismounting. Start your cycle route at TOP Vliegveld Hilversum, where you can easily park your car and are immediately in the middle of nature. Oh yes, don't forget your binoculars!
