Barendrecht

This short cycle route lets you enjoy exceptionally pleasant and green Barendrecht. From the monumental village centre, you soon cycle into the polders and arrive at the Old Meuse river. Here you will find a number of beautiful nature reserves.

You get to know the Rhoonse and Carnisse Grienden, a unique area of protected nature. Pollard willows, ditches and marshy polders are not only beautiful to admire, they are also the habitat of the beaver. Who knows, you might even see traces of gnawing on the willows.

You cycle along the Oude Maas river and through beautiful nature. Get off your bike at junction 28 at the viewpoint. You used to be able to cycle across the bridge here, but beware: it is no longer there! If you look closely, you can still see the remains of the bridge on the other side.

The South Polder is also on the route. The polder landscape is interspersed with forest strips, reed beds and flowering grasslands.

Fully rested in nature? Cycle back to the old village centre of Barendrecht and settle down on one of the cosy terraces around the old church.
