Cycle route Explore Veldhovens Past
Veldhoven, Vessem, Wintelre
This cycle route takes you through the history of Veldhoven. Along the way, you will pass several Pit stops where you can discover more about the village's history.
Although you now cycle mostly through an agricultural landscape, things used to look very different here. Just after the last Ice Age, this was a huge plain covered with plants, and at the time there were even reindeer grazing here. The area was naturally sparsely populated, a few people stayed here temporarily and lived off the edible plants and hunting the reindeer.
Later, people stopped hunting and gathering and decided to settle down. The land was cultivated and cattle were raised. Although no direct habitation traces have been found from that time, stone tools and pottery have been found in Veldhoven municipality. Burial mounds have also been found, which you can still see during this route.
