Cycle route Enjoy at Gieten
Stadskanaal, Gieten
Start your Cycle route in Stadskanaal in the southeast of the province of Groningen. The name Stadskanaal originated when in 1765 the Groningen city council decided to have a canal dug, i.e. the city's canal. Along the canal, new residential areas were built, forming the town of Stadskanaal. In this town lies Museum Railway S.T.A.R., with its historic steam trains you can travel to Musselkanaal and Veendam.
And the area can be explored not only by rail, but also by bike. The route takes you through beautiful nature, moors and via river Hunze to Gieten. This village lies on the border of beautiful forests and moors. The coat of arms of Gieten shows a leaping greyhound, which is why the 1833 corn mill was named ‘De Hazewind’.
Gieten and its surroundings, enjoy!
